Q&A WITH TED JOSEPH from www.hitsdailydouble.com
Veteran label executive Ted Joseph, who spent two decades at Warner Bros. Records, is combining his old-school expertise with a new-school sensibility at his new gig fronting the Las Vegas-based Odds On Records, an offshoot of the company’s recording studio. The label has released a pair of Air Supply catalog albums, as well as the band’s brand-new studio effort Mumbo Jumbo—their first disc of new material in eight years—which produced the Adult Contemporary hit, “Dance With Me,” their first charted single in 18 years. In addition, the label has L.A. newcomers Ultraviolet Sound, fronted by Sarah Hudson, the cousin of actress Kate Hudson.

For those who may or may not know, tell everyone about Odds On Records, the label you run out of Vegas, and where you see your label going from here.

We combine both old-school expertise and new-school technology. We want to be a label artists love to be with. No multiple layers of bureaucracy , no BS—just effective marketing campaigns. We’re aggressively looking to grow the label.

What type of bands/groups are you looking to sign to represent your brand?
We’re open to all formats of music here at the label. Our goal is to customize a long-range development campaign for each artist on our roster. We’re looking for exciting artists that make great music and connect with the music consumer.

Is there a future for the record business?
The record business may be in trouble, but the music business is alive and well. If we can continue to find exciting artists that make great music that stimulates people, it will continue to live on. Our goal is to customize a long-range development campaign for each artist on our roster. You have to connect with the music consumer and excite them!
